Visiting Students Process
Students who are pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree at:
- an institution of higher education in the US (other than MIT)
- or abroad (the majority of students in the Visiting Student program come from abroad)
and who have been invited by an MIT department or laboratory to do research in their field of studies, may apply for Visiting Student status for a minimum of 3 weeks and a MAXIMUM of 18 months.
- Current MIT regular or special students, or MIT students who have withdrawn or are on a leave of absence, cannot apply for Visiting Student status.
- Non MIT Visiting Students are subject to a $1,000 Visiting Students Fee. Please note that fees cannot be charged to a Research Account.
- Visiting Students can be paid through MIT. They will be set up on an hourly student payroll. Please let John Merriman know in advance of setting up the student if you plan to pay them.
Please contact John Merriman
Merriman@csail.mit.edu with the account number and student’s email as soon as you have decided you will be hosting a visiting student. He will then contact the student with paperwork to fill out.
