UROP

Becoming a UROP at CSAIL

1) Find a professor or research scientist to sponsor your research project. Visit www.csail.mit.edu/contact/UROP/urop.html for current openings

2) At the beginning of each semester, come to CSAIL HQ and meet with the UROP coordinator, John Merriman, in 32-G425A.

3) Fill out necessary paperwork before you start working.

* Your 1 page typed proposal, which explains what you will be researching during your UROP. Online here: sisapp.mit.edu/uropweb/home.mit
* Personnel Action Form
* MIT Inventions and Proprietary Information Agreement

New UROPs also need to fill out the following paperwork at the Student Employment Office, located in 11-320:
* New student information sheet
* I-9 (Please bring your driver’s license and social security card or passport)
* W-4 tax form, and W-2 tax form
* Direct Deposit Form

General UROP Information

1) The semesters are broken down as follows:
(IAP/Spring) (Spring) (Summer) (Fall) (Fall/IAP) (IAP)

2) You will be paid after you have received your approval letter from the UROP Office and have turned it into John Merriman, in 32-G425A.

3) It is important to resubmit a coversheet and proposal at the beginning of each semester to continue and remain active.
