Keys & ID Card Access

Requests for Keys

CSAIL personnel can obtain keys for offices, research areas, desks and filing cabinets by contacting Annie Lawthers by email (ladybug@csail.mit.edu) or in person at the front desk in Headquarters (32-G415). You must list the appropriate room or key number when requesting keys, and your supervisor must approve all requests. While some key requests may be filled immediately, please expect a processing time of one week. All keys are non-transferable, and you must return them to CSAIL Headquarters upon termination or transfer.

To protect personal and laboratory property, lock unoccupied rooms at all times. Property loss should be reported immediately to MIT Campus Police (x3-1212). Then, please inform TIG of the theft (x3-8056 or ops@csail.mit.edu).

ID Card Access

CSAIL research space is generally accessible from Monday 9:00 a.m. to Friday 5:00 p.m. Most doors leading into CSAIL research space are locked outside of these hours. This includes doors leading into office space from the fire stairwells and elevator lobby doors, and many neighborhood doors. These doors have proximity card readers and can be unlocked by enabled MIT ID Cards.

To have your card enabled, email John Merriman Merriman@csail.mit.edu for CSAIL ID Card Access. Please note: Access will only be given to faculty, staff and visitors with a valid CSAIL appointment and students working with CSAIL faculty and staff.

Other neighborhood doors with regular key locks are also locked in the evening. In most cases, restrooms are outside the neighborhood areas, so don't forget your keys and ID card after hours!
