Parking and T Passes

Parking

Permit parking
Parking is provided to CSAIL staff as available. Because parking space is limited, there may be a waiting list. Please see Tiffany Luongo tluongo@csail.mit.edu in CSAIL HQ to apply for parking.

Staff and support staff are eligible to park in the Stata Garage, at 32 Vassar Street. The annual parking fee for regular paid employees is $1,192. The parking year runs September 1 through August 31. New parking stickers must be in place by September 15; after this date the MIT Police will ticket any car parked in a permit zone without a sticker.

Fees will be pro-rated for permits bought in the months after September. MIT accounts of any kind, including ILP and other discretionary fund accounts cannot be used to cover this charge for either employees or visitors. Employees may elect to have the fee taken out of their paychecks on a pre-tax monthly basis.

Lost or replacement passes
The replacement fee is $30 per sticker, or $10 for the sticker if you return the previous year's sticker.

Occasional parking
The Occasional/Evening parking permit is intended to meet the needs of part-time employees, second- and third-shift employees, or employees who normally use other means of commuting. This permit allows a person to park in an MIT gated lot for a daily rate, up to twelve times a month. The one-time sticker fee is $67 and the daily rate fee is $5 up to 12 times per month for a business day, and not for each entry or exit during the day. The rate increases to $12 per day for each additional day of parking. A $100 deposit is also required when picking up the occasional parking permit at the parking office.

Economy Regular parking and Economy Occasional parking
Economy Regular parking and Economy Occasional parking are discounted parking programs offered to employees who elect to park in the West Lot and Westgate Lot. The Economy Regular parking fee is $710. The Economy Occasional parking fee is $67 for the one-time sticker, and a day rate of $2.50 up to 12 times per month for a business day, not for each entry or exit during the day. The rate increases to $6 per day for each additional day of parking. A $100 deposit is also required when picking up the Economy Occasional parking permit.

Free TechShuttle service

West Lot parkers can use the free TechShuttle service (http://web.mit.edu/facilities/transportation/parking/employee/economy.html) which runs approximately every 10 minutes during peak hours to get to most parts of campus.

Student parking
CSAIL does not have regular or visitor parking for MIT students. Please refer to the MIT student parking page on the MIT Parking Office website for more information about parking on-campus.

Visitor parking
Visitor Parking is available for visitors to CSAIL who will be here for a day or two at a cost of $20 per day. A pass for each day of the visit can be obtained from the assistant of the PI that the person will be visiting. The visitor must display this pass in his/her automobile.

Those here for lengthy visits, such as Visiting Scientists and Scholars, may be eligible for Occasional commuter parking permits. Please contact Tiffany Luongo tluongo@csail.mit.edu for more information.

Transponders for Hands Free parking
MIT has installed transponders for "Hands Free" systems in the Stata Garage and the upper levels of the West Garage. This system employs technology similar to that being used for the Fast Lane program on the Massachusetts Turnpike and other major highways. A transponder attached to your windshield automatically opens the parking gates, eliminating the need to swipe your card.

"Hands Free" parking is a voluntary program provided at a cost of a one time $20 fee and a refundable $20 deposit on each transponder. You may apply online for Transponders for "Hands Free" or download a printable PDF application for mail or fax.

For additional information please visit the MIT Parking Office website.

T Passes

MIT subsidizes the purchase of MBTA monthly passes for students and employees. Once you are enrolled in the program, a Charlie Card, a reusable T-Pass, will be issued to all Bus and Monthly LinkPass? users. A Charlie Ticket will be ordered for Commuter Rail and Commuter Boat riders and ready for pickup during the last three business days of each month. You can apply online for a T-pass easily on MIT Facilities' website.

Who is eligible for the MIT T-pass program?

  • Registered students who have a current bursar account and do not have a full parking permit.
  • Employees who are eligible for payroll deduction and do not have a full parking permit.

For more information about MIT's T pass programs, please visit MIT's T pass information page on the MIT Facilities website.
