Instructions for using the IndyCam to take your picture

---

0. Make sure you are sitting at an Athena SGI workstation. (Typing "cview" at any Athena prompt should list all public-cluster SGI machines on campus.)

1. Launch the capture tool by double clicking on the IndyCam icon (alternatively, type "capture" at the Athena shell prompt).

2. Pull down the icon-menu at the lower left corner and select the still camera (not the video camera).

3. Select the Settings option under the Actions menu and enter the filename to which you wish to save your picture.

4. Position the IndyCam and take your picture by clicking on Record in the lower right corner.

5. To see how the picture turned out, click on Preview also in the lower right corner.

6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 as many times as necessary to get a picture you like. Unless you change the filename that your picture is stored in, only the most recent picture will be saved. The various windows which pop up can be deleted by clicking on the minus sign in the upper left corner and selecting quit.

7. Make your image file accessible by the web. If you don't already have a directory in your account where you place HTML files, create it by typing:

athena% mkdir ~/www
athena% fs sa ~/www system:anyuser read
This will make your directory readable so that anyone trying to access it through the web is able to do so. Now, move your image into the directory and it will have the URL:
http://web.mit.edu/username/www/my_picture.gif
