It is my pleasure to introduce this collection of abstracts for the Sixth Annual MIT Student Workshop on Computing Technology. I believe that this year, as in previous years, the proceedings provides a broad sample of current research in computer science at MIT.
A total of 36 abstracts were submitted this year, 19 were submitted for consideration for presentation at the workshop and 17 were submitted for publication only. Each submission was reviewed by every program committee member. The program committee met for about four hours on June 11, 1996 and selected 14 papers for presentation at the workshop and 20 additional abstracts for inclusion in the published proceedings. The 14 abstracts selected for presentation are marked with a (*) in the table of contents. Discussions and decisions on abstracts authored or co-authored by program committee members occurred only after the author had left the room.
This is the second year that the workshop has been run almost entirely by students. A great many people have contributed to make it a success. In particular, I'd like to thank the members of the program committee for their hard work and dedication. In addition, I'd like to thank Fred Chong, last year's program chair, who made my job a great deal easier by offering advice and encouragement. Finally, my special thanks to Irena Kveraga, whose tireless work made the workshop possible.
