Note about gamma correction

If these images are too bright or too dark when you display them, you may need to convince your image viewer to adjust for the gamma of your display.

The images available here have already been gamma corrected somewhat (using a gamma of 1.5) such that they look reasonable on our local displays. If your display has a gamma of less than 1.0, you will probably need to darken the images somewhat (using a gamma of less than one); if your display has a gamma of more than 1.0, you will probably need to brighten the images somwehat (using a gamma of greater than one).

If you're using xloadimage, this can be done with the -gamma command line option. If you're using xv, this can be done interactively using the "Color Edit Box". See the documentation for your image viewer for more information.
